After every home game, Hawaii quarterback Bryant Moniz has a set routine.
After the game, Moniz and family members gather at his home in Wahiawa.
"We kick back," Moniz said of the gathering, which includes relatives from the Big Island. "We don’t watch the (replay of) the game. We just enjoy each other’s presence."

The day after the game, Moniz is playing 18.
"Usually a round of golf gets the body ready for the next week," Moniz said.
This past week, he played in Ewa Beach.
"I shot a 95," Moniz said. "I was kind of disappointed. I could drive. I was driving well. But as my girlfriend’s uncle said: ‘It’s not how you drive, it’s how you arrive.’ I’ve got to work on the short game."
This past Saturday, Moniz had no problems with his short or long game, throwing for 424 yards and seven touchdowns in the first half of what became a 56-14 rout of UC Davis.
And in what is becoming a Monday routine, Moniz was named the Western Athletic Conference’s Offensive Player of the Week. He has won the award twice this year and six times during his three-season UH career.
"It feels good, as always," Moniz said. "The win is the most important thing. I’m very pleased and happy and thankful."
After the game, in which he played in only the first half, an uncle asked him about setting the UH record — and tying the NCAA mark — for most scoring passes in a half.
"Just put it this way," he recalled saying, "whether I lost or whether I won and beat the record, I’ll still be here cruising with you guys. To put things into perspective, life doesn’t change much. You still play ball. You still go on."
Against UC Davis, the Warriors established the vertical-pass attack for the first time this season.
"A lot of it was kind of luck," Moniz said. "Those balls were very close to being deflected, and very close to being out of bounds. I had a lot of great catches. It kind of worked out. I kind of had faith in the ball, more than usual. I was putting it out there."
Moniz’s career comes full circle with this Saturday’s road game against Louisiana Tech. Moniz made his UH debut in Ruston in 2009, replacing the injured Greg Alexander in the third quarter. Moniz completed five of 11 passes for 109 yards.
Admittedly being "thrown into the fire," Moniz said, "I learned so much from game experiences that the player then is totally different now."
