“SUNSET” CAST PARTIES AT TOWN ?
1. “Sunset Boulevard” cast members Jody Bill (Betty Schaefer), left, Matthew Pennaz (Joe Gillis), Mary Gutzi (Norma Desmond) and Olivier Jodloman (Max von Mayerling) celebrated with Jess Aki, the show’s hair and makeup designer, at the opening-night cast party for the Diamond Head Theatre show Sept. 30 at Town in Kaimuki. Aki uses stage makeup and wigs to make Gutzi look at least a decade older that she does off-stage.

CHUN PRESENTS NEW DESIGNS
4. Jeanie Chun, center, presented her “New Sophisticated Collections” with support from Leilani Keough, left, Dr. Lawrence K.W. Tseu, honorary French consul Patricia Lee and Karl Sakamoto Oct. 1 at Waialae Country Club. Lee narrated the fashion show; Sakamoto was the featured entertainer.

“WHISKEY ROOM” AT NOBU WAIKIKI
5. Dave Newman, third from left, was joined by Justin Ridgely, left, Jordan Chan and Lisa Nishiyama as he took a break from preparing Whiskey Thatcher cocktails Sunday at Nobu Waikiki. The sold-out “Whiskey Room” event featured Newman and five other mixologists serving trendy whiskey-based cocktails, and smart drinkers ate before they got there. Sampling alcoholic drinks that don’t taste like alcoholic drinks is not done on an empty stomach.

3. Cafe Sarang was filled to capacity when Kevin Chun, second from left, and Skeet Akita, third from left, celebrated their recent birthdays with a party that started with dinner Sept. 30 and continued several hours past midnight. Erick Reichard, left, and Kyle Iwamoto handled the logistics.

DUNHAM EXHIBIT OPENS AT EAST-WEST CENTER ?
2. Maya Soetoro-Ng, center, and exhibit curator Michael Schuster welcomed Marti Kerton to the Oct. 2 opening reception at the East-West Center for “Through Her Eyes: Ann Dunham’s Field Work in Indonesia,” a retrospective on the work of Soetoro-Ng’s mother. Kerton, like Soetoro-Ng, is half-Indonesian. They met 12 years ago when Soetoro-Ng helped Kerton improve her Indonesian language skills and have been friends ever since.
