Ho wins World Pro Junior surf title
Hawaii’s Coco Ho defeated Australia’s Dimity Stoyle to capture the Oakley World Pro Junior surfing championship in Bali on Monday.
Ho, ranked No. 6 on the ASP world rankings, earned $5,000. The Oakley is the first of three ASP World Pro Junior events, with the next later this month in Brazil.
However, Ho said on aspworldtour.com, “This is probably my last event of the year and it’s great to go out on a win.”
Vulcans fall in soccer
Hawaii-Hilo goalie Paul Elias made seven saves, but it was not enough as the Vulcans fell to Simon Fraser (British Columbia) 4-0 in a nonconference men’s soccer match at Hawaii Pacific’s Atherton Field on Monday.
The Clansmen (12-0) led 3-0 at halftime and outshot the Vulcans 23-7. UHH dropped to 2-7.
Hawaii-Hilo women’s golfers in sixth place
The Hawaii-Hilo women’s golf team was tied for sixth place heading into today’s second round of the Western Washington Invitational at the Bellingham Golf and Country Club.
Kristen Sawada led the Vulcans with a 5-over 77, tying her for 18th. Grand Canyon’s Chorpaka Jaengkit and Lyra Yoe of Academy of Art shared the lead with 72s.
The Vulcans were at 316, 13 strokes behind leader and host WWU. UHH was tied with Cal State Monterey Bay and Chico State in the 11-team event.
