Komen race aims to raise $650,000
The theme of Sunday’s 17th annual Susan G. Komen Hawaii Race for the Cure’s is “17 Strong — Strong Minds, Promising Futures.”
The 5K race, held during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, will begin at 7 a.m. at Kapiolani Park, with a 1-mile race starting at 7:15 a.m. About 6,500 participants are expected.
Register online or make a donation at www.komenhawaii.org. Donations also can be sent to Komen Hawaii Race for the Cure, P.O. Box 31000, Honolulu HI 96849. Packet pickup will be from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Kewalo Conference room at Ward Warehouse.
This year’s fundraising goal is $650,000. Proceeds are used for breast cancer research, education, screening and treatment programs. For more information, call 754-6659 or visit www.komenhawaii.org.
Photos to portray tobacco’s ravages
Local photographers may submit photos that capture the effects of tobacco in Hawaii for the Clear the Smoke Photo Project. Images should address how tobacco has affected the community, family and friends.
Thirty photos will be chosen for display at The ARTS at Mark’s Garage, opening on Jan. 20. Cash prizes will be awarded.
Contestants must be at least 18 years old; limit is two entries per person. Deadline for submissions is Dec. 10. Visit www.clearthesmoke.org/photoproject.
