Words can come back to haunt you
So, parents, you were worried enough that your college kid was ruining his online reputation merely by posting pics of his frat parties on Facebook. Now you can fret also about what your student is posting in his Facebook "Note," a blog-type area of the site.
Kapiolani Community College student Dylan Hunt found that out after putting up a Note detailing complaints about his former landlords, who are suing him now for defamation.
Facebook is full of consumer and general gripes, mostly shared among self-selected groups of members. But the Notes section can be open to the world, as this one was. If you paw through the Facebook help files, there’s lots of stuff about how to use the blog but nothing in plain view stating something like, "This might only be Facebook, but libel and slander laws still apply." Yes, college students may not heed it, but a warning would be nice. Put it in red letters.
A politician who will fight for you
Filipino boxing superstar/politician Manny Pacquiao faces a ring challenge on Nov. 12 in Los Angeles by Juan Manuel Marquez and reportedly is looking to Hawaii as the site for his next bout in 2012 or 2013.
Honolulu attorney Michael Green says Pacquiao, who is also a member of the Philippines’ House of Representatives, asked him to help plan a fight here, Hawaii News Now reports. Pacquiao is the WBO Welterweight World champion.
No doubt he has star power; the question is whether enough people here will pay $2,000 or $3,000 for a ringside seat.
