Oahu basketball players honored at Foot Locker
Four Oahu students will be honored Saturday as part of Nike’s House of Hoops by Foot Locker grand opening at the Ala Moana Foot Locker store.
Selected for their success on the court and in the classroom are Jasmine Soon and Blayne Douglas Kawehi Won of Saint Francis School and Farrington High’s Chasity Scanlan-Sevao and Viane Vaina. Festivities begin at 2:30 p.m.
As part of the event, the Nike Skills Basketball Academy is offering a free youth clinic at McCabe Gym beginning at noon. There are limited spaces available for the clinic, which will have local coaches involved, including retired Chaminade coach Merv Lopes.

Tennis classes at Honolulu Club
Honolulu Club pro Joy Minaai is offering group tennis classes to the public beginning Nov. 1.
The six-week classes run Monday through Friday 4-6 p.m. for juniors ages 5 and 6, and Saturdays 8-10 a.m. for juniors 7 and older.
There are also classes or beginning and intermediate adults. The cost is $110 for six weeks, $18 per class or $20 drop in.
The registration deadline is Oct. 28.
The club is also offering a Prince racket demo day on Oct. 25 from 5 to 6 p.m. Demo day is limited to 10 people.

Cricket club touring India
The Honolulu Cricket Club leaves Wednesday on an 18-day goodwill playing tour of India that will include matches against the U.S. and Australian embassy teams.
The trip also includes cultural exchanges and the celebration of Diwali, the Festival of Lights, with the family of current HCC director Pankaj Bhanot. The club is also donating educational materials and sporting equipment to children in underprivileged neighborhoods.
The Honolulu Cricket Club, founded in 1893, is one of Hawaii’s oldest athletic clubs.
