Various mechanical problems caused delays in residential trash pickups from East to West Oahu, the city Department of Environmental Services announced.
Nine trucks were out of service due to different mechanical problems, said environmental services spokesman Markus Owens.
"It’s not one particular problem," Owens said. "It could’ve been engine problems, tire problems."
The nine trucks serviced five routes in Newtown, Aiea, Halawa, Iroquois Point and Ewa Beach.
"We’re asking residents on those areas to hold their blue carts until the next blue cart collection, which is in two weeks," Owens said.
A small number of trucks that pick up refuse in gray carts in East Oahu was also sidelined due to mechanical problems, the city said.
Residents whose gray carts were not collected Friday and Saturday in the areas from Kahala to Hawaii Kai were asked to leave their carts by the curbside Monday. Owens said those carts were expected to be picked up Monday night.
"It was something that we could service quicker," Owens said.
