The 26-year-old man accused of injecting illegal drugs into a 14-year-old girl is known to Honolulu police as "one of the bigger marijuana dealers in Waikiki," said Keith Seto, deputy city prosecutor.
An Oahu grand jury returned an indictment Tuesday charging Matthew S. Kratz with two counts each of first-degree methamphetamine trafficking and first-degree promotion of a dangerous drug. All charges are Class A felonies, each punishable by a maximum 20-year prison term.
Kratz remains in custody unable to post $200,000 bail.
Seto said Kratz provided the girl methamphetamine on Oct. 4 and 5 and provided her crack cocaine on Oct. 4 and 6. On all four occasions, Seto said, the girl asked Kratz whether she could try the drugs, and he obliged.
Seto said Kratz dissolved the methamphetamine in water and injected the solution into the girl.
Police said a city ambulance took the girl to the Queen’s Medical Center on Oct. 7 for treatment of a drug overdose. She tested positive for methamphetamine, cocaine, oxycodone and marijuana.
Kratz has misdemeanor convictions on Oahu and Maui and drug arrests in California, Seto said.
