The University of Hawaii officially announced the new three-year contract for head baseball coach Mike Trapasso on Tuesday.
The deal replaces his old “two plus one plus one” contract beginning with the upcoming season, meaning he’s signed through 2014.
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, but according to a copy of the contract obtained by the Star-Advertiser, Trapasso will make $177,008 per year, up $2,000 from his previous deal.
“A few years back I asked Mike to focus on winning the WAC and getting our baseball team into the NCAA postseason tournament,” athletic director Jim Donovan said in the release. “I’m pleased that Coach Trap has done both —winning the WAC regular season last year and winning the WAC tournament and going to the NCAA regionals the year before.
“This is a trend I expect to continue based on the improved local and mainland student-athletes being recruited to be on our baseball team.”
Trapasso has been named WAC coach of the year three times in his 10 years since taking over for Les Murakami. UH will play its final WAC season in 2012 before joining the Big West Conference.
