Sea search for fisherman suspended
The Coast Guard has suspended the search for an overdue fisherman, pending new developments.
Kon Wai Young, 53, was reported missing Saturday after he left Hawaii Kai on a fishing trip aboard his 19-foot green and white boat.
The search was suspended at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, the Coast Guard said.
The search area covered 18,536 square miles, an area three times the size of Hawaii island, and involved the cutters Ahi and Kiska, HC-130 Hercules airplanes and MH-65 Dolphin helicopters. A Coast Guard Auxiliary aircrew conducted a search of the south coast of Molokai while flying to Maui on an unrelated trip.
The Honolulu Fire Department also assisted in the search.
Biker dies of injuries from August crash
A 73-year-old motorcyclist died last week of injuries suffered in a single-motorcycle crash in August, police said.
The Honolulu Medical Examiner’s office identified the man as Matthew White of Wisconsin.
An autopsy found he died of multiple organ failure related to injuries from the Aug. 17 crash.
Police said White was wearing a helmet when he crashed on Kaukonahua Road, just south of Wilikina Drive. He was taken to the Queen’s Medical Center in serious condition, but his condition worsened and he died on Oct. 11.
He was the 46th traffic fatality on Oahu compared with 46 at the same time last year.
Boy arrested after classroom confrontation
Police arrested a 12-year-old Palolo student who allegedly threatened a teacher after being scolded.
Police said the boy threatened to throw an object at a 36-year-old teacher after she tried to reprimand the boy at 1 p.m. Tuesday at an unnamed Palolo school.
Officers arrested the student for first-degree terroristic threatening and released him pending further investigation
Forensic clues lead to burglary suspect
Police arrested a 27-year-old man in connection with burglaries at two businesses in Kalihi in August.
The break-ins happened at 1:20 a.m. on Aug. 29 and at 10:30 p.m. on Aug. 30, police said.
Forensic evidence led to the identification of the suspect arrested Tuesday.
He was released pending further investigation.
