NBA players tour Oahu for military
Nine NBA players, including reigning league MVP Derrick Rose, will take a five-day USO tour of Oahu next week for a series of scrimmages and clinics with local military personnel.
The players collaboration, dubbed “Hoops for Troops,” was made possible by the ongoing NBA lockout.
Destinations include Joint Base Pearl Harbor Hickam on Tuesday and Schofield Barracks on Thursday.
Besides Rose, the Chicago Bulls point guard, the participating NBA players are Joe Johnson and Al Horford (Atlanta Hawks), Tyreke Evans (Sacramento Kings), JaVale McGee (Washington Wizards), D.J. Augustin (Charlotte Bobcats), Robin Lopez (Phoenix Suns), Brook Lopez (New Jersey Nets) and Mike Miller (Miami Heat).
“I am honored to participate in this USO tour and look forward to not only time on the court with our nation’s armed forces, but also learning more about what they do on a daily basis,” Johnson said in a release.
