Inmate charged in Christmas Eve break-in
A Pearl City man was arrested Friday in connection with a 2010 burglary at a Kalihi residence after DNA test results came in from blood samples allegedly left in the home during the crime.
Police said the man, 30, broke into the home and damaged property during the break-in on Dec. 24.
The suspect, who is already in the Halawa Correctional Facility on unrelated charges, was booked and charged with first-degree burglary.

Laupahoehoe crash injures 6, closes road for 2 hours
Six people were injured during a two-vehicle crash that shut down Highway 19 in Laupahoehoe on Hawaii island for about two hours Saturday morning.
The incident occurred just before 7 a.m. near the 30 mile marker, the Hawaii County Fire Department said.
When firefighters arrived, they found a van on the side on the highway. Five passengers got out of the van themselves, but the driver was pinned, requiring assistance. The second vehicle, a car, was in a ditch. The driver, the sole occupant, also was pinned inside and needed help.
The injured people were taken to North Hawaii Community Hospital and Hilo Medical Center. One was later transported to the Queen’s Medical Center in Honolulu, apparently in critical condition, a police source said.
Honaunau man charged in crash
A Honaunau man was charged with drunken driving charges after he drove a truck into a utility pole, cutting power to 1,400-plus Hawaii Electric Light Co. customers early Thursday in Kailua-Kona.
The Hawaii Tribune-Herald reported that Meta Coonen, 21, was charged in connection with the crash reported at 2:17 a.m. at Kaiwi and Luhia streets.
Brush fire scorches 3 acres in Wailua
A brush fire burned about 3 acres in Wailua early Saturday between Leho Road and Kuhio Highway near the Aloha Beach Resort, Kauai firefighters said.
No one was injured and no structures were threatened.
The fire began at about 12:40 a.m. and was put out at 2 a.m.
