Two meetings on widening a portion of Kahekili Highway in Kaneohe will be held in the first week of November.
The meetings will address what to do with a stretch of the state road, from Haiku Road to the Hygienic Store in Kahaluu where the road meets Kamehameha Highway.
A story on Page B1 of Monday’s Star-Advertiser incorrectly stated that the portion being considered for widening runs from Haiku Road to Likelike Highway. A map accompanying the story also displayed the incorrect information.
The purpose of the meetings is to determine whether the widening is still needed. An environmental impact statement in 1990 projected population growth on the Windward side of the island.
The state Department of Transportation said the re-evaluation of the EIS should be done by the end of this year. Any major work won’t begin until 2014 at the earliest.
The meetings will be held Nov. 2 and 8 at the Windward Community College Hale Akoakoa Campus Center, 45-720 Keaahala Road in Kaneohe.
Both meetings are from 5 to 9 p.m. Visit www.kahekilihighway.com.
