Wahine open fall with alumni game
Some of the Hawaii softball program’s past standouts will test the current Rainbow Wahine team in the annual alumni game on Saturday.
The game, set for 4 p.m. at Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium, opens UH’s fall exhibition schedule. Admission is free.
Melissa Gonzalez and Jenna Rodriguez, two members of last season’s senior class, are among those expected to play for the alumni team. The roster also includes Kanani Pu‘u-Warren, Amanda Taualii and Traci Yoshikawa, seniors on the 2010 team that made it to the Women’s College World Series, and three of the program’s top five home run hitters in Kate Robinson, Tanisha Milca and Tyleen Tausaga.
Junior center fielder Kelly Majam is second on the home run list and is among 17 returning letterwinners for the 2012 Wahine, who also feature the reigning Western Athletic Conference pitcher and player of the year in senior Stephanie Ricketts and shortstop Jessica Iwata.
Chaminade, UHH play to 1-1 draw
Lane Lorenzo’s goal in the 73rd minute gave Hawaii-Hilo a 1-1 double-overtime tie with Chaminade in men’s soccer on Wednesday in Hilo.
Josa Carranza scored the game’s first goal to put Chaminade up 1-0 in the 49th minute.
A minute later, Silverswords goalkeeper Jose Miguel Pena saved a Vulcans penalty shot.
Neither team could score in the two overtime periods.
Chaminade (0-13-2, 0-9-1 Pacific West Conference) is still looking for its first win. UHH is 2-10-2 and 1-7-1.

Lindsey Poulsen scored for the Vulcans (3-10-2, 2-7 PacWest). The Silverswords dropped to 1-14 and 1-9.
BYUH nips Academy of Art
Aaron Drewery scored off Eric Lowe’s free kick to break a tie and lift Brigham Young-Hawaii to a 4-3 men’s soccer win over Academy of Art in San Francisco on Wednesday.
Zack Dupaix, Justin Allen and Kyle Oertel also scored for the Seasiders (8-6-1, 4-4-1 PacWest).
Patrick Heinemann, Andrew Cruz and Phillip Durner scored for the Urban Knights (4-10, 3-7).

Rylei North scored two goals and Natalie Drewery added one for the Seasiders (11-2-1, 6-2-1 PacWest). The Urban Knights dropped to 3-9-2 and 1-7-2.
BYUH volleyball ranked second in West
Brigham Young-Hawaii is No. 2 in the NCAA Division II West Region women’s volleyball rankings released Wednesday.
At the end of the season, the top eight teams in the rankings move on to the regional tournament.
BYUH (13-3) is behind only No. 1 Cal State San Bernardino (20-0).
Hawaii Pacific (11-8) is No. 6 and Hawaii Hilo (9-6) is No. 8.
