2 murder suspects to appear in court
A 26-year-old security guard is scheduled to appear in court today after being charged with four counts of attempted murder in the first degree, reckless endangerment and firearms violations over the weekend.
Raford Percival of Mililani is accused of firing shots at three people and a 7-month-old girl Thursday night at an apartment complex near the Wahiawa Shopping Center.
He is being held in lieu of $100,000 bail.
Police said two men, ages 31 and 47, argued with Percival, a security guard at the shopping center, just after 5 p.m. Thursday. Percival followed the two men to their residence near the shopping center and allegedly fired several shots at them and the 24-year-old girlfriend of the 31-year-old man, police said. The girlfriend was also was holding the couple’s daughter, police said. No one was hit.
Police arrested Percival a short time later at the shopping center.
Also scheduled to appear in court today is 24-year-old McNeil Valencia, charged with attempted murder in connection with a machete attack in Kalihi Wednesday night.
Valencia, 24, of Salt Lake, was being held in lieu of $75,000 bail.
Police said Valencia drove to a home on Eluwene Street just before 11 p.m. Wednesday and allegedly confronted another man, 23, and accused him of stealing from him, police said.
Valencia pulled out a machete and sliced the victim on his ear, face and collarbone, according to a neighbor who spoke to Hawaii News Now.
The victim was taken to the Queen’s Medical Center in serious condition.
Kauai hiker dies on Sleeping Giant trail
A 59-year-old male hiker from Lawai, Kauai, died Saturday afternoon after suffering a heart attack or stroke while hiking along the Nonou Mountain (Sleeping Giant) trail, Kauai County officials said.
The man’s name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, officials said Sunday.
He apparently suffered a heart attack or stroke while hiking around 2 p.m. Saturday.
The Kauai Fire Department’s Air 1 helicopter flew to the summit, where rescue crews performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation on the man, officials said.
The victim was later taken to Wilcox Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
