Amber-colored gel spices up shower
Pumpkin bath and body products tend to have an overly sweet, sometimes cloying scent, but The Body Shop’s limited edition Spiced Pumpkin bath and shower gel ($5.99), made with organic aloe vera and pumpkin extract, has a mellow, spicy aroma. The fragrance of the amber-colored soap lingers, filling my bathroom with the essence of autumn for hours after the soap has been put away. The Body Shop is located at Pearlridge and Ala Moana shopping centers.

Munch on supermoist muffins when on Maui
Spring, summer, fall, winter — you can enjoy Stillwell Bakery & Cafe’s giant pumpkin muffins any time of year; you’ll just have to go to Maui to get them. The muffins are supermoist yet airy, and owner Roy Stillwell uses a light hand with spices that would otherwise overwhelm the savory pumpkin flavor. The best part is the crunchy muffin top with large sugar crystals baked in. Buy them for $3.12 each (day-old muffins are a dollar cheaper and just as good). Stillwell’s is also known for its cream horns (fly these home instead of Komoda’s heavyweight cream puffs!) and is a popular breakfast and lunch spot. Find the bakery at 1740 Kaahumanu Ave., 243-2243; closed Sundays.

Facial provides fine holiday glow
Through the end of November, Spa Halekulani is offering a delectable, multisensory Pumpkin Apple Spice Peel Facial to relieve early holiday tension and get your skin glowing for Thanksgiving get-togethers.
The homey, familiar scents brought instant comfort, and I would like to say I enjoyed every minute, but it was all so soothing — from the gliding, silky texture of the warm cleansing mask that preceded the application of the Epicuren pumpkin formula to the gentle hand, arm, shoulder and neck massage — that I fell asleep halfway through the session. That’s when the fruit and malic acids in the peel do their work.
So, yes, I enjoyed it all, though in absentia during some parts of the ritual, and even better, liked seeing smaller pores in the mirror after the treatment. The facial is followed by an ingestible treat of pumpkin-spice tea served on the spa’s outdoor lanai. Cost is $190; call 931-5322.
If you’re more of a homebody, the June Jacobs Spa Collection includes a Perfect Pumpkin Peeling Enzyme Masque, a gel formula that feels rich and smooth going on, full of pumpkin’s essential fatty acids, vitamins A and C, as well as antioxidant goji berry, pomegranate and grapeseed extracts. It’s also paraben- and preservative-free.
The DIY treatment uses pumpkin enzymes to remove dead surface cells and stimulate cell turnover to help improve your skin’s tone and texture. It’s available at JuneJacobs.com or get it for 20 percent off its regular $80 price at the Kahala Spa at the Kahala Hotel & Resort.
