A patient of the state psychiatric hospital in Kaneohe was still missing Friday after escaping from the facility Thursday, police said.
Robert Pacheco, 30, left the Hawaii State Hospital between 6:40 and 8:25 p.m. Thursday, police said. Officers searched the surrounding area but did not find him.
Pacheco was in a gym at the hospital before he got out, and the hospital reported an extra set of clothes might be missing, police said. Details on how Pacheco allegedly escaped were not available.
A state Department of Health spokeswoman confirmed the hospital had an escape, but could not provide further details, citing federal privacy laws for hospital patients. The spokeswoman could not say whether Pacheco poses a threat, and police said health officials did not provide that information.
Police described Pacheco as 5 feet 7 inches tall, 205 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. He was wearing a blue dress shirt and brown pants.
