Officer shocked by lighted airport railing

City paramedics took a Honolulu police officer to the Queen’s Medical Center in serious condition Sunday after he was shocked while leaning against an illuminated railing while at a traffic post on the H-1 freeway just past the Hono-lulu Airport’s eastbound onramp.

"He’s all right," said HPD Capt. Andrew Lum.

Paramedics were sent to the scene at about 6:30 p.m., a spokesman for the city Department of Emergency Services said.

Close to 30 motorcycle officers escorted the ambulance to Queen’s.

The Traffic Division officer was staffing a security post for one of the dignitaries on Oahu for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation gathering.

Hiker missing on Valley Isle since Friday

Maui Fire and Police departments will resume a search at first light today for a 29-year-old hiker missing since Friday.

Their search was discontinued Sunday night due to darkness.

Fire Assistant Chief Lee Mainaga said the man’s girlfriend reported him missing Friday afternoon.

Air and ground searches were conducted of Maliko Gulch in Haiku.

Mainaga said the search was suspended at 6:05 p.m.
