Ace helps Fujikawa take lead
A hole-in-one propelled Hawaii’s Tadd Fujikawa into the lead Tuesday at the last stop on the NGA Pro Golf Tour’s Carolina Winter Series. The Moanalua graduate fired a bogey-free 6-under-par 66 and is two shots ahead at Aberdeen Country Club in Longs, S.C.
Fujikawa aced the par-3 fourth hole and added four birdies.
The tournament ends Thursday. Fujikawa, 20, placed fourth and fifth on the series’ first two stops. He will return to Hawaii after this week.
BYU blows past BYU-Hawaii
Center Brandon Davies scored 14 of Brigham Young’s first 21 points and finished with 25 and the host Cougars cruised to a 73-52 victory over BYU-Hawaii on Tuesday in Provo, Utah.
Jet Chang and Jake Dastrup led the Seasiders with 12 points apiece. But Chang didn’t score his first basket until 4:45 before halftime. The Cougars led 40-17 at the break and dominated in every category, holding the Seasiders to 19.4 percent shooting in the first half.
UH men line up 2 volleyball matches
The Hawaii men’s volleyball team will play two exhibition matches during the fall season, beginning Thursday.
The Warriors take on the Kailua Volleyball Club, which features a number of UH alumni, Thursday at McKinley High gym at 7 p.m.
UH holds an intrasquad scrimmage at Maryknoll School on Nov. 26 at 7 p.m.
Admission for each match is $5 for adults and $2 for students. Proceeds will go to the Wounded Warrior Project.
Renewal for current season-ticket holders began this week with new season-tickets sales to begin Dec. 12.
The Warriors open the season with Mountain Pacific Sports Federation matches against UC San Diego on Jan. 5 and 6.
The 18th Outrigger Hotels Invitational, Jan. 12-14, features UCLA, Lewis and Springfield.
Sea Warriors sign guard
VeAnne Navarro, a California high school standout, signed a letter of intent to join the Hawaii Pacific women’s basketball team next season, the school announced Tuesday.
Navarro, a 5-foot-5 guard, averaged 20.6 points as a junior at Modesto Christian High and was named to the All-Modesto Metro Conference first team.
