Twenty-year-old Tadd Fujikawa has a share of the lead going into today’s final round of the final stop on the NGA Pro Golf Tour’s Carolina Winter Series. The Moanalua graduate and first-round leader shot 1-under-par 71 Wednesday and shares first with Virginia’s Sam Beach.
The tournament is being played at Aberdeen Country Club in Longs, S.C. Fujikawa was fourth and fifth on the series’ first two stops. He plans to play in the Turtle Bay Resort Hawaii State Open, Dec. 16-18.
Hawaii golfers far back
After a rough second round Wednesday, Hawaii’s Jarett Hamamoto (72—144), Tony Finau (74—145) and Parker McLachlin (76—150) have to rally to advance from the PGA Tour Second Stage event at Humble, Texas.
Halfway through, Hamamoto has a share of 53rd, Finau is 56th and McLachlin 70th. The top 20 and ties after Friday’s final round advance. There are 75 golfers playing at Redstone Golf Club.
The Second Stage event at Panama City Beach, Fla., started Wednesday and Leilehua graduate Nick Mason is five shots out of first after shooting 1-under-71 at the Hombre Golf Club. Mason is tied for 27th. The top 21 and ties advance.
At Murrieta Calif., Castle High graduate Dean Wilson double-bogeyed two straight holes and opened with a 3-over 75 at Bear Creek Golf Club. He is tied for 58th, 10 shots out of first. The top 19 and ties advance. Reigning Hawaii Pearl Open champ John Ellis, from San Jose, shot 74.
PGA Tour qualifying’s Final Stage is Nov. 30-Dec. 5, with the LPGA’s final Q-School Nov. 30-Dec. 4.
