Hawaii women’s basketball coach Dana Takahara-Dias announced the signings of three players for the 2012-13 season on Thursday.
They are guard/forward Diane Moore (5-10), guard Morgan Roberts (5-9) and guard Shahana Zeigler (5-7).
"They are players who will complement us in our new offensive scheme. … They’re competitors and will fit nicely in our system, based on their style of play and their work ethic," Takahara-Dias said.
Moore averaged 22 points and 10 rebounds as a sophomore at Diablo Valley College (Calif.). She will have two years of eligibility.
Roberts, of Mount Albert Grammar School in Auckland, N.Z., comes to UH with experience with the New Zealand U-19 national team, with which she averaged 20 points per game. She will have four years of eligibility.
Zeigler averaged 7.1 points, 3.1 assists and 2.1 steals per game as a combo guard in her junior season at Lynwood High School (Calif.). After her senior year at Lynwood, she will have four years of college eligibility.
"Shahana Zeigler will give us dynamic play at the point guard position. Morgan Roberts is a great shooter. We’ve been looking for a pure shooter. Diane Moore can score at any position and she comes in with great experience. We like the mix of these three players."
The Rainbow Wahine are losing four seniors after the current season: forward Breanna Arbuckle, center Rebecca Dew, guard/forward Courtney Gaddis and center Carlotta Mingo.
Takahara-Dias has three more scholarships free to assign to either new players or current walk-ons. The coach said finding post players is an emphasis for the spring signing period.
UH hosts Portland today at 7 p.m. on the first day of the Jack in the Box Rainbow Wahine Classic.
