KUMU KAHUA SWINGS WITH "JIVE BOMBER" | 1. Director Stephanie Conching celebrated with Ron Encarnacion, Royce Okazaki, Chevy Martinez and Friston S. Ho'okano at the opening-night reception for Kumu Kahua's Hawaii-premiere production of "A Jive Bomber's Christmas" Nov. 10 at the downtown theater. Martinez stars as a Japanese-American swing music fan who helps put on a Christmas show in an American internment camp during World War II. Ho'okano's work as hair and makeup designer helps give several members of the cast an authentic 1940s look.

TAG GOES BIG WITH "FUTRELLE-OGY" | 5. Artistic Director Brad Powell, second from left, congratulated cast members Dusty Behner, left, Iris Wilhelm-Norseth and Tony Nickelsen after "Southern Hospitality," the third play in "The Futrelle-ogy" series, opened to a full house Nov. 13 at The Actors Group Theatre in Iwilei. TAG is taking on a big challenge in presenting the entire series, one play per night, in sequence throughout the run. Nickelsen plays a character who appears in all three plays; Behner plays two characters and is also in all three plays; and Wilhelm-Norseth plays one character in the first play and a different one in the third. Powell directs all three.

3. Multitalented Jessica Kauhane, left, and Daren Kimura partied with the show's musical director, Jenny Kimura, and audience member Tracy H. Okubo. Kumu Kahua rarely does shows with live music, let alone conventional song-and-dance numbers, but "Jive Bomber" keeps Kimura at the piano for almost the entire second half of the show while the cast sings and dances.
