Ono dishes abound using Asian veggies

Local sites replicated at gingerbread event
Hawaii Community College-West Hawaii culinary students are making gingerbread centerpieces that resemble some local landmarks.
The holiday centerpieces will be auctioned at "Christmas at the Fairmont — Dining with the Chefs" event on Dec. 3.
The 23rd annual gala at the Fairmont Orchid finances local culinary scholarships and kitchen equipment for the future West Hawaii community college campus at Palamanui. About 20 resorts and restaurants on Hawaii island participate annually.

Author to share tips with food writers
Calling all foodies, bloggers, writers and cookbook authors. Dianne Jacob, author of "Will Write for Food," will share her expertise at a workshop Dec. 10 at Queen Emma Gardens Condo Tea Room.
Jacobs will discuss techniques to create a notable blog and present exercises to boost writing and restaurant review skills. She will also offer an insider’s perspective on cookbook publishing.

Vegan goes gourmet at fusion workshop
Vegan and raw food chef Mark Reinfeld, founder of the Blossoming Lotus Restaurant, is presenting vegan fusion workshops in December and January.

Reinfeld will present a 10-day class that encompasses numerous types of foods, including soups, salads and dressings, grains and beans, and vegan desserts. The workshop will run in Honolulu from Jan. 30 to Feb. 3 and Feb. 6 to 10 at a Hawaii Kai home. Cost is $1,500.

Whole Foods has partnered with Green Wheel Food Hub to connect Oahu farmers with people receiving Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) food stamps.
Funds raised through the Recycle Your Change program will be used to create a checkout station at the Hawaii Farm Bureau’s Honolulu farmers market for food-stamp shoppers.
