» Washington State freshman linebacker Chester Sua (Kaimuki ’11) had a game-high 11 tackles, including a career-best seven solo stops, in a 30-27 overtime loss to Utah on Saturday. Defensive end Jordan Pu‘u Robinson (Baldwin ’09) assisted on a tackle, while Utes junior Tevita Finau (Kahuku ’06) had two tackles, including one for loss.
» Navy senior Aaron Santiago (Kapolei ’07) scored on a 35-yard touchdown run and finished with 62 yards on six carries and a 14-yard reception in a 27-24 loss to San Jose State on Saturday. Safety Wave Ryder (Kamehameha ’10) added two tackles for the Midshipmen.
» Notre Dame linebacker Manti Te’o (Punahou ’09), who on Tuesday was named a finalist for the Butkus Award, had 12 tackles and three quarterback hurries in a
16-14 win over Boston College on Saturday. Receiver Robby Toma (Punahou ’09) added five catches for 65 yards for the Fighting Irish.
» Texas Tech defensive end Scott Smith (Saint Louis ’07) had seven tackles and 11⁄2 sacks in a 31-27 loss to Missouri on Saturday.
Akana, Akeo earn major MAAC volleyball awards
Siena (N.Y.) sophomore Taylor Akana (Kamehameha ’10) was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference offensive player of the year, while junior Lesli Akeo (Kamehameha ’09) was named defensive player of the year on Friday. Akana led the MAAC with 4.46 kills per set and 345.5 total points in league play. She also had 314 digs, 29 aces and 40 total blocks. Akana finished third in the MAAC with 5.41 digs per set and is on pace to shatter the school’s all-time digs record. Manhattan (N.Y.) College freshman Malia McGuinness (Maryknoll ’11) was named to the second team. McGuinness led the Jaspers with 3.40 kills per set and averaged 2.53 digs per set. |
» Oregon State linebacker Feti Unga (Kahuku ’06) made seven tackles in a 38-21 win over Washington on Saturday.
» Stanford defensive end Matt Masifilo (Campbell ’07) made one of his three tackles for a loss in a 31-28 win over California on Saturday. Defensive tackle Aaron Tipoti (Word of Life ’08) assisted on a tackle for loss for the Bears.
» Brigham Young safety Travis Uale (Kamehameha ’05) had six tackles and a pass breakup, defensive end Graham Rowley (Waialua ’10) had 11⁄2 tackles for loss and a sack, and tight end Kaneakua Friel (Kamehameha ’07) caught two passes for 20 yards in a 42-7 win over New Mexico State on Saturday. Senior Simote Vea (Kahuku ’05) had two tackles and a sack, and Aveni Leung-Wai (Aiea ’05) added a solo tackle for the Cougars. David Niumatalolo (Kahuku ’05) had four tackles, and tight end Jackson KaKa (Kahuku ’10) had an 8-yard reception for the Aggies.
» Idaho running back Kama Bailey (Damien ’08) totaled 159 all-purpose yards, carrying the ball 23 times for 110 yards and hauling in five passes for 49 yards, in a 49-42 double-overtime loss to Utah State on Saturday. Linebacker Conrad Scheidt (Kamehameha ’09) added nine tackles for the Vandals.
» Weber State junior offensive lineman Tytan Timoteo (Saint Louis ’09) was named to the All-Big Sky Conference second team on Tuesday. Timoteo started all 11 games of the season, splitting time between guard and tackle. Wildcats receiver Shaydon Kehano (Castle ’10), quarterback Mike Hoke (Kamehameha ’08) and defensive tackle Ryan Eastman (Saint Louis ’08) earned honorable mentions.
» CSU-Pueblo senior safety Josh Costa (Kamehameha ’08) and junior linebacker Jason Campbell (Kamehameha ’09) were named to the All-Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference second team last Wednesday. Costa had 34 tackles, three interceptions, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery and a sack, while Campbell finished with 34 tackles and eight for loss, with two sacks. Western New Mexico offensive lineman Sosaia Vaitai (Waianae ’07) was named to the third team.
» Montana freshman Trent McKinney (Mililani ’11), who redshirted this season, was named the scout team player of the year at the Grizzlies’ annual awards banquet on Sunday.
» Pacific (Ore.) receiver Jordan Fukumoto (Saint Louis ’10) and Linfield (Ore.) defensive back Nate Dixon (Kapolei ’08) were named to the All-Northwest Conference first team last Wednesday. Fukumoto finished second in the conference with 844 receiving yards and third with eight touchdowns, and Dixon had two interceptions and broke up a team-high four passes. Pacific Lutheran defensive back Sean McFadden (Punahou ’10) was named to the second team.
» Linfield (Ore.) senior Kalae Parish (Kapolei ’08) made five tackles, and defensive end KeAlii Poomaihealani (Saint Louis ’10) added two tackles and a pass breakup to help the Wildcats defeat Cal Lutheran 30-27 on Saturday in the first round of the NCAA Division III Championships.

» San Jose State setter Caitlin Andrade (Kamehameha ’09) had 29 assists, seven digs and a block assist, and Alex Akana (Kamehameha ’09) had three kills and a block assist in a three-set loss to New Mexico State in the first round of the Western Athletic Conference playoffs on Monday. Akana and Nevada setter Tatiana Santiago (Kamehameha ’08) were named to the All-WAC second team on Sunday.
» Hofstra junior Kylee Maneja (Sacred Hearts ’09) was named to the All-Colonial Athletic Association third team on Thursday. Maneja ranked second in the conference, averaging 4.74 digs per set, and was third on the Pride with 25 service aces.
» Cal State Northridge sophomore outside hitter Mahina Haina (‘Iolani ’10) was named All-Big West Conference honorable mention on Tuesday. Haina has a team-high 335 kills with one match remaining and ranks ninth in the conference at 3.32 per set.
» Arizona State freshman setter Shannan McCready (Punahou ’11) had 48 assists and seven digs in a four-set loss to Southern California on Friday.
» Boston College senior Brennan Clark (University ’08) recorded a school record for digs in a four-set match, totaling 33 with two assists and an ace in a loss to Duke on Sunday in her final home match.
» Fairfield (Conn.) freshman Carsen Mata (Moanalua ’10) had 14 digs and an ace, and senior Haililani Pokipala (Sacred Hearts ’08) had four digs, two kills and a block assist in a four-set loss to Niagara in the championship game of the MAAC tournament on Sunday.
» Menlo (Calif.) junior Mika Mendoza (Moanalua ’09) was named honorable mention in the California Pacific Volleyball Conference on Nov. 9.

» Willamette (Ore.) senior Taylor Mounts (‘Iolani ’08) scored a team-high 25 points on 9-for-19 shooting in a 108-101 victory over D’Youville (N.Y.) College on the opening day of the Calvin Tip-off Tournament on Friday. Mounts had 20 points, six rebounds and two blocks in an 81-76 loss to Calvin College in the championship game on Saturday.
» Trinity (Tex.) sophomore guard Matt Feldman (Punahou ’10) finished with 11 points, four assists and three steals in an 84-70 win over Concordia (Texas) on Friday in the Southwestern/Trinity Classic.

» Cal State Northridge junior Violet Alama (Kalani ’09) finished with nine points, nine rebounds and two assists in an 83-63 loss to Oregon State on Thursday.
» Utah junior guard Iwalani Rodrigues (Kalani ’08) played all 40 minutes of a 57-56 loss to Arkansas on Sunday, finishing with eight points, four rebounds and a block.
» Sacramento State sophomore guard Jordan Kealoha (Mid-Pacific ’10) played 15 minutes off the bench and had five points, two rebounds and an assist in a 74-67 win over Long Beach State on Saturday.

» Willamette (Ore.) junior Amanda Tamanaha (St. Andrew’s Priory ’09) finished in 240th place with a time of 23:33.19 in the 6-kilometer race at the NCAA Division III cross country championships on Saturday.

» Occidental (Calif.) junior defender Reid Sakamoto (‘Iolani ’09) was named to the All-Southern California Interscholastic Athletic Conference second team last Wednesday.
MEN’S WATER POLO
» Princeton sophomore goalkeeper Tyler Amina (Kamehameha ’10) made 12 saves in a 14-3 win over Iona in the quarterfinals of the Collegiate Water Polo Association Eastern semifinals on Friday. The Tigers won the tournament and will play in the NCAA championships on Dec. 3.
