Detained man arrested for kicking officer

Police arrested a man Wednesday for allegedly assaulting a police officer while in the emergency room at the Queen’s Medical Center.

The 25-year-old man, who has no local address, had been arrested for abuse and taken to the hospital for treatment of an undisclosed condition. At the emergency room, the man became disorderly and kicked the officer guarding him in the back of the head, police said. Police arrested the man for investigation of assaulting a police officer.

Overturned trailer blocks Kauai highway

The driver of a large pickup truck pulling a 27-foot trailer lost control of his vehicle while traveling northbound along Kuhio Highway on Kauai between Kealia and Anahola about 6:30 p.m. Sunday, causing a partial closure of the highway for several hours.

The truck and trailer ran off the road near mile marker 11.9 and hit a dirt embankment, causing the trailer, which was loaded with a grass-cutting tractor, to flip on its side.

The trailer blocked the northbound lane and a portion of the southbound lane for several hours.
