Stanley scores 17, but U.S. falls
Hawaii’s Clay Stanley scored 17 points, but he was the only American in double figures as Russia defeated the U.S. men’s national team, 25-18, 25-19, 26-24, Tuesday in a 2011 FIVB World Cup volleyball match at Kagoshima, Japan.
The U.S. men finished the first round 1-2. They face Egypt (1-2) next, in Kumamoto.
The Cup’s round-robin format features 11 matches in 15 days, with the top three teams on Dec. 4 earning berths in next year’s Olympic volleyball field.
