Police arrested a 25-year-old man for investigation of attempted murder in connection with an arson fire at a Foster Village house late Monday night.

Three people were home but got out unharmed.

Police said the suspect, who gave no local address, was distraught over his relationship with a girlfriend, who lived at the home.

Fire investigators determined that the fire at the two-story home on Ukali Street Monday night was intentionally set, said fire Capt. Terry Seelig.

The fire started at about 11:30 p.m. in a downstairs bedroom and was confined to the bedroom, Seelig said. Two residents of the home used a garden hose to spray water and help contain the flames. A 60-year-old woman, a 38-year-old man and a 25-year-old man were home when the fire broke out. All escaped uninjured.

Firefighters extinguished the blaze at 11:59 p.m., Seelig said. It caused about $6,000 in damage.

Seelig said the home has six bedrooms, rented by various tenants.

Police said officers arrested the man at about 1 a.m. when he returned to the home after the fire.

Police arrested the man for investigation of three counts of attempted murder because three people were in the house when the fire started.
