» Texas Tech defensive end Scott Smith (Saint Louis ’07) had nine tackles, including two for loss, a sack and a forced fumble in a 66-42 loss to Baylor on Saturday. In eight games since returning from a suspension, Smith has 37 tackles with a team-leading 51⁄2 sacks and three forced fumbles.
» Oregon State junior linebacker Feti Unga (Kahuku ’06) made a game-high 13 tackles, and sophomore defensive end Devon Kell (Hilo ’09) assisted on two tackles in a 49-21 loss to Oregon on Saturday. Sophomore Keloni Kamalani (Kamehameha-Maui ’09) made four tackles for the Ducks.
» Eastern Michigan defensive back Bryan Pali (Kamehameha-Maui ’08) made seven tackles, including one for loss, in an 18-12 loss to Northern Illinois on Friday. Pali started three of the Eagles’ 12 games, finishing the season with 47 tackles and an interception.
» Washington State freshman linebacker Chester Sua (Kaimuki ’10) made four tackles in a 38-21 loss to Washington on Saturday.
» UNLV linebacker John Lotulelei (Baldwin ’09) made three tackles, and freshman Desmond Tautofi (Kaimuki ’11) assisted on two tackles, including one for loss, in a 31-14 loss to San Diego State on Saturday.
3 from islands receive Pac-12 football honors
California junior defensive tackle Aaron Tipoti (Word of Life ’08), Stanford defensive end Matt Masifilo (Campbell ’07) and UCLA center Kai Maiava (Baldwin ’07) earned honorable mention All-Pac-12 honors on Monday. Tipoti, who started seven of the 10 games he played, had 21 tackles, with three for loss, and 112 sacks this year. Masifilo, who had two solo tackles and a fumble recovery in last Saturday’s 28-14 win over Notre Dame, had 30 tackles, including eight for loss, with 212 sacks and two fumble recoveries for the season. Maiava has started 11 of 12 games a year removed from a broken ankle that forced him to miss an entire season. |
» New Mexico State senior defensive end David Niumatalolo (Kahuku ’05) had seven tackles, including one for loss, and tight end Jackson KaKa (Kahuku ’10) had three receptions for 10 yards in a 44-0 loss to Louisiana Tech on Saturday.
» Yale senior offensive lineman Gabriel Fernandez (Mid-Pacific ’08) was named to the All-Ivy League second team last Tuesday. Fernandez started all 10 games this season, helping the Bulldogs to a 5-5 overall record. He also earned the “Ted Turner Award,” handed out annually to Yale’s best offensive lineman.
» Linfield (Ore.) senior Kalae Parish (Kapolei ’08) made eight tackles in a 49-34 loss to Wesley (Del.) in a second-round NCAA Division III playoff game on Saturday. It was the final game for Wildcat seniors Parish, Nate Dixon (Kapolei ’08), Brent Shimabukuro (Saint Louis ’08) and Sparky Gonzalez (Saint Louis ’08), who went 37-8 with three Northwest Conference championships in their careers.

» Texas sophomore Sarah Palmer (Hawaii Baptist ’10) had 11 digs and an ace and senior Sydney Yogi (Punahou ’08) had 10 digs and three assists in a four-set victory over Oklahoma on Saturday to win the outright Big-12 championship. The Longhorns are the No. 1 overall seed in the NCAA tournament and host Texas State on Friday.
» Long Beach State senior Lauren Minkel (‘Iolani ’08) had 17 digs, two assists and an ace in her final home match as the 49ers defeated New Mexico in four sets on Saturday. LBSU will play San Diego in the first round of the NCAA tournament on Friday. Toreros sophomore C’era Oliveira (Hawaii Baptist ’10) has played in 27 matches this season, totaling 179 digs, 25 assists and six aces.
» Kansas State junior Kuulei Kabalis (Kamehameha-Hawaii ’09) had 14 assists and two digs in a four-set win over Kansas last Wednesday. The Wildcats received an at-large berth into the NCAA tournament and will play Wichita State on Friday in the first round.
» Albany (N.Y.) junior Gabby Whitworth (Kalaheo ’09) had four blocks, two kills and a dig to help the Great Danes defeat Stony Brook in three sets in the championship game of the America East Conference tournament on Nov. 19. Albany will play Florida State on Friday in the first round of the NCAA tournament.
» Delaware sophomore libero Cara Rosehill (Kamehameha ’10) had 16 digs to help the Blue Hens defeat Virginia Commonwealth in five sets on Nov. 20 to win the Colonial Athletic Association tournament championship. Delaware will play American University in the first round of the NCAA tournament on Friday.
» Oregon State senior Dre Shaw (Kamehameha-Maui ’08) had a team-high 10 kills and three digs as the Beavers finished their season with a three-set loss to Oregon on Friday.
» Pacific (Calif.) senior Rebekah Torres (Kamehameha ’08) had six digs, two kills and an ace, and libero Keola Matsuoka (Kamehameha ’09) had 17 digs and five assists as the Tigers closed the season with a three-game sweep of Seattle U. on Friday.
» Rice senior Jordan Meredith (Kamehameha ’08) ended her collegiate career with four kills and three digs in a five-set loss to Houston last Wednesday.
» Arizona State freshman setter Shannan McCready (Punahou ’11) posted a double-double with 41 assists, 11 digs, two kills and two block assists in a four-set victory over Arizona on Saturday. McCready finished fifth in the Pac-12 in assists per set.

» Azusa Pacific freshman Logan Chan (Sacred Hearts ’11) started at defensive back and helped hold Hastings (Neb.) scoreless in a 2-0 victory to advance to today’s quarterfinals of the NAIA tournament against the University of Mobile.

» UNLV senior Jamie Smith (‘Iolani ’08) recorded her third double-double of the season, finishing with 14 points, 10 rebounds and a block in a 64-45 loss to Georgetown in the championship game of the Lady Rebel Round-Up on Sunday.
» Puget Sound freshman Ashley Agcaioili (Maryknoll ’11) started and played 29 minutes in an 80-77 loss to Concordia (Ore.), finishing with eight points on 3-for-8 shooting with three rebounds and an assist.
