Some homeless campers spent the night on the sidewalk across King Street from Old Stadium Park after they were cleared out so city crews could clean the park and power-wash the adjoining sidewalk. By Wednesday morning, homeless people including John Lozano, who uses a wheelchair, began returning with their belongings to the sidewalk next to the park.

Homeless campers started moving back to the sidewalk next to Old Stadium Park once city crews finished a cleanup Wednesday morning.
The city moved the campers out Tuesday night so that crews could clean the sidewalks and check the condition of the park, said city spokeswoman Louise Kim McCoy.
A few campers took advantage of offers to go to the Institute for Human Services shelter, while others spent the night on the sidewalk across the street, McCoy said.
Some began returning to the park Wednesday morning.
McCoy said the cleanup was planned weeks in advance and the Waikiki Health Center and IHS notified the campers that they would have to move from Old Stadium Park and Moiliili Park.
She said the cleanup is part of normal maintenance for the parks and partly a response to citizen complaints about access to the park and the sidewalk.
Crews from the Department of Parks and Recreation and the Department of Facility Maintenance power-washed the sidewalks and cleaned up inside the park.
Crews returned Wednesday morning to assess the condition of the park in the daylight and to check storm drains, McCoy said.
She said a bill that would ban camping and storing property on sidewalks is still making its way through the City Council.
