The Polynesian Cultural Center presents "Christmas in Polynesia" this holiday season.
Nearly all 42 acres of the center’s grounds and lagoon will be transformed into a Pacific wonderland.
A 25-minute canoe ride winding through a live production of "Kamakana and the Five Fir Trees" will be offered from 6 to 8 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays from Dec. 12 to 23.
"Kamakana and the Five Fir Trees" is a local adaptation of a popular Christmas story, "The Three Fir Trees." A grandfather tells his grandson, Kamakana, the tale of how the fir trees became part of the Christmas Nativity story.
Elaborate Christmas lights and decorations, musical performances, actors, animals and props are included in the production. There will also be arts and crafts, entertainment by halau, choirs and bands and keiki train rides at the Polynesian Cultural Center.
Free tram rides will be available to the nearby Laie Hawaii Temple Visitors Center, where guests can see a Christmas tree display featuring 19 decorated trees.
