Kauai police have identified the woman killed late Friday during a violent rampage in Waimea Valley as Edita Padamada.
Police also identified the alleged assailant, who was killed by an officer as he attacked two other victims, as Shendon Chandler-Taniguchi, 21.
The incident apparently began on Menehune Road when Chandler-Taniguchi used what was described as a large knife to attack his grandfather, Anthony Chandler, 83, about 11 a.m., police said.
The assailant then attacked Padamada, a neighbor of Chandler’s, police said.
From there, Chandler-Taniguchi apparently walked a short distance and attacked James Rick, 63, and Julie Berseid, 50.
An officer at the scene attempted to stop Chandler-Taniguchi, police said.
The assailant ignored the officer’s verbal demands, continued his attack and then turned toward the officer. At that point, the officer shot the suspect. As he tried to flee, he collapsed, police said.
Chandler-Taniguchi was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
The conditions of Chandler, Rick and Berseid were not released, although authorities reported Friday they were taken to Kauai Veterans Memorial Hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.
Police are asking anyone with information about the incident to call police dispatch at 241-1711, Lt. Dan Fort at 241-1460 or Crime-Stoppers at 241-1877.
