Here’s a movie your descendants will like
The raves have begun for "The Descendants" as various organizations have previewed it on the journey to the Academy Awards. The Los Angeles Film Critics Association has named the Hawaii film this year’s best picture. Pretty heady stuff.
The movie starring George Clooney, though, will have plenty of company and competition in popularity, including the movies that joined it in the American Film Institute’s top 10 films of 2011. Among those is the National Board of Review’s top selection of "Hugo," a 3-D Paris-based epic, and "War Horse," scheduled to hit the scene on Christmas Day.
For the 39th time, it’s only 26.2 miles
Kudos to the folks who powered through the chills, winds and wet roads to participate in Sunday’s 39th Honolulu Marathon. It’s quite a testament to fitness and commitment that the top 500 local finishers did the 26.2-mile course in under 4 hours and 2 minutes; leader Thomas Puzey was in at under 2 hours, 32 minutes. Most astounding was overall winner Nicholas Chelimo, who finished at 2 hours, 14 minutes, 55 seconds, just three seconds ahead of runner-up Patrick Ivuti. The top female finisher was Woynishet Girma at 2 hours, 31 minutes, 41 seconds.
And no sooner had the 2011 Honolulu Marathon become history that its website starting advertising for the 1st annual Honolulu Marathon Half Marathon, to come March 11, 2012. No rest for the weary.
