The higher road that wasn’t taken
Since the new "Hawaii Five-0" series began last year, the TV show’s production crews have become a familiar sight around Oahu.
So far it’s been a peaceful co-existence, with a touch of excitement for local folks and few complaints — until Five-0 showed up at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific at Punchbowl.
Steffan Tubbs, a Denver-based radio host and member of a veterans support group, didn’t just complain that Five-0 treated visiting veterans rudely.
He instructed the veterans he was escorting to return the favor — with the one-fingered salute.
It’s hard to take him seriously after that.
Who will be new Warriors coach?
The dust left in the wake of Greg McMackin’s abrupt retirement is starting to clear — and at least 30 candidates for his old job have emerged.
Who will be hired as the new University of Hawaii football coach, and for how much, is still a ways off, with the new search-advisory committee meeting for the first time just two days ago.
But the process is now under way in earnest, with a healthy field of promising candidates, many with strong UH ties.
Avid fans are anxiously waiting to see who survives the short list, then emerges as coach, at what price, and how efficiently it all comes together toward the next season.
Then, it’ll also be up to the fans to support and help relaunch the program as it ventures into a new era in the Mountain West Conference.
So many opportunities, so little time.
