Chun wins gold at U.S. Open wrestling
Roosevelt graduate Clarissa Chun won the gold medal in women’s freestyle wrestling at the U.S. Open in Arlington, Texas.
Chun defeated four opponents with one pin to reach the final, where she defeated Victoria Anthony of Huntington Beach, Calif., 1-0, 3-0.
The top seven place-winners from each Olympic weight class earned a spot in the 2012 Olympic Team Trials.
Fukushima leads Hawaii State Open
Kent Fukushima shot an opening-round 4-under 68 to lead the men’s open division in the Hawaii State Open at the Turtle Bay Arnold Palmer Course on Friday.
Sean Maekawa and Kevin Hayashi head a group of four that is a shot back. Previous champion Dean Wilson shot a 71 and is tied for ninth; Tadd Fujikawa shot 73 (tied for 17th) and Parker McLachlin 78 (tied for 56th).
Allisen Corpuz leads the women’s open field with a 67 after sinking 5 birdies and an eagle. Ayaka Kaneko is four shots back.
Chaminade women’s basketball team falls
Montana State Billings defeated Chaminade’s women’s basketball team 84-76 at McCabe Gym on Friday.
Jordan Ahakuelo had 17 points and 11 rebounds for the Lady Swords (0-6), who also got 15 points apiece from Rhani Kaneaiakala and Glacen Florita.
Kayleen Goggins scored 18 for the Yellow Jackets (7-4).
