Calendar spotlights various Hawaiian sites
Traditional Hawaiian sites for agriculture and aquaculture are highlighted in the Department of Land and Natural Resources’ 2012 calendar on sale now.
The calendar, titled "Traditional Hawaiian Sustenance," features photographs of ancient fishponds, taro lo‘i and ‘auwai. The intent of the calendar is to remind people of the importance of providing physical and spiritual sustenance through the restoration of these sites, the agency said. Photographer Ric Noyle shot most of the images in the calendar, which also features boating-safety tips, a tide chart and moon phases.
The calendars are $10 for the first 10 and $5 each thereafter and can be purchased at the Hawai‘i Heritage Center, 1040 Smith St. in Chinatown, between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. Mondays to Saturdays. Call 521-2749 to order by phone.
