HIROMI SINGS IN WAIKIKI | 1. Japanese vocalist Hiromi Kanda celebrated the recent release of her second American pop album, "Days of Yesterday," with an intimate one-nighter Dec. 12 at Lewers Lounge in the Halekulani. Four of Hawaii's top jazz musicians -- Rocky Holmes (sax and flute), von Baron (drums), Steve Jones (bass) and Dan Del Negro (piano) -- provided solid all-star support for two smooth sets of Kanda's favorite pop standards.

SEDAKA SUPER AT HAWAII THEATRE | 5. Tia Carrere talked backstage with Neil Sedaka and "Uncle Tom" Moffatt after Sedaka's superb one-man show Dec. 17 at the Hawaii Theatre. Sedaka entertained the crowd for almost two hours performing his own hits and some he had written for other artists.

STELLAR 'NUTCRACKER' | 2. Celebrity guest stars Chi Cao, left, and Timour Bourtasenkov relaxed backstage at the post-show reception for Ballet Hawaii's 2011 production of "The Nutcracker" Dec. 16 at Blaisdell Concert Hall. Chi's stellar performance as the Cavalier and Bourtasenkov's seductive Arabian sequence were dramatic highlights in a beautiful production.

STANDARD PREVIEW WALL-TO-WALL | 3. The crowd was wall-to-wall for the invitation-only preview of The Standard Dec. 15 at Waterfront Plaza, but guests Lorraine Revilla and radio personalities Taka (Power 104.3) and Lil Guy (KCCN FM100) had room to enjoy the party in the spacious VIP section. The Standard opens to the public Friday.

AIR AUSTRALIA KNOWS HOW TO PARTY! | 4. Australian radio personalities Jules Lund, left, and Fifi Box were the emcees as Air Australia Managing Director and CEO Michael James, center, celebrated the airline's first nonstop flight to Honolulu with a "Luau Launch Party" Dec. 16 that started at 5:30 p.m. at the Hilton Hawaiian Village and continued past midnight at a nearby nightclub. Mike McCartney, executive director of the Hawaii Tourism Authority, welcomed them to Hawaii.
