Maui teenager hit and killed by vehicle
A 17-year-old Kihei boy died Saturday after a vehicle hit him as he was crossing a highway in south central Maui.
Maui police identified the boy as Zachariah Aubut.
Police said the vehicle was traveling south on Mokulele Highway when the driver hit Aubut, who was walking or running across the road. Aubut died at the scene.
The crash happened at 12:53 p.m., about a half-mile north of Kealia Pond National Wildlife Refuge. Speed and drugs do not appear to be factors.
Trio arrested in burglary of Kalihi bar
Officers captured three burglary suspects seen fleeing from a break-in at a Kalihi bar early Saturday morning, police said.
Police responded to an alarm call at the Vegas 3 bar at 1320 Kalani St. at 5:25 a.m. and saw three men fleeing the scene in a vehicle, detectives said.
Officers arrested two Nuuanu men, ages 29 and 22, and a Waianae man, 23, nearby at 1210 Dillingham Blvd.
Driver hurts himself rear-ending truck
A Waianae man was in critical condition Friday after his vehicle rear-ended a dump truck in Kalihi Kai.
Police said the 42-year-old man was driving a 2003 Dodge pickup when he hit a green dump truck waiting at the intersection on Auiki Street to make a left turn onto Sand Island Access Road. The man was in critical condition with internal injuries and taken to the Queen’s Medical Center.
A 33-year-old man who was driving the dump truck was not injured in the crash, which happened at 5:32 p.m.
Police said the pickup driver may have had a previous medical condition.
Woman arrested in Waikiki shoe theft
Honolulu police arrested a 43-year-old woman from Omaha, Neb., who allegedly stole a pair of shoes at the Royal Hawaiian Center.
Police said that as the woman tried to leave the Kate Spade shoe outlet at 2233 Kalakaua Ave. about 4:12 p.m. Friday, she was confronted by a male security guard. The suspect then kneed the security guard in the groin, police said.
Officers detained and arrested her on suspicion of second-degree robbery.
