Coast Guard looks for man, missing sailboat
The Coast Guard is searching for a 66-year-old man aboard a 36-foot sailboat that departed Kauai Dec. 17 and was expected to arrive on Oahu the next day.
Ira Foreman left Port Allen late in the morning and was expected to arrive at Keehi Lagoon Dec. 18, the Coast Guard said. Foreman’s wife reported him overdue at 3:15 p.m. Saturday.
Foreman departed on the sailboat Arcturus, which is described as having a white hull, white sails, no name on the transom and four portholes on each side of the cabin.
The Coast Guard launched a search crew from Barbers Point at 7 a.m. Sunday.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Coast Guard Sector Honolulu at 842-2600.
Highway closed to clear debris from rockslide
A rockslide along Highway 19 near Laupahoehoe Gulch closed the Hawaii island highway for part of the day Sunday.
After the rockslide was reported at about 5 a.m., one lane was closed in the Hilo-bound direction so crews could remove debris and rocks in danger of falling from the cliff face, Hawaii County police said.
