High surf warning: North Shore waves to reach 25-35 feet

A high surf warning has been issued for the north and west shores of Oahu until 6 a.m. Thursday with waves expected to reach 25 to 35 feet on the North Shore.

West-facing shores should see waves of 15 to 25 feet, the city’s Department of Emergency Management said.

Surf is expected to increase dramatically Tuesday morning on Kauai, and by Tuesday afternoon on Oahu, Molokai and Maui, officials said. It will peak Wednesday morning.

Under a high surf warning, dangerous waves can pound the shoreline in low-lying areas, and swimming conditions are extremely hazardous with deadly rip currents possible.

A high surf advisory that had been in effect Monday was cancelled.
