BYUH breaks scoring record in victory
Brigham Young-Hawaii defeated Northwest Indian College (Bellingham, Wash.) 126-86 on Monday night in Laie.
The Seasiders (4-6) broke their all-time scoring record with the 126 points. The previous record was 121 vs. Hawaii Loa in 1987.
Junior Ale scored 21 points and added 13 rebounds to lead the way for BYUH on Monday.
KFVE to televise 2 conference games
KFVE (Ch. 5) will televise a pair of Pacific West men’s basketball games this month, beginning with today’s contest between Hawaii-Hilo and Hawaii Pacific at Blaisdell Arena.
The Vulcans and Sea Warriors tip off at 7 p.m.
KFVE also will televise next Tuesday’s 7 p.m. game between Brigham Young-Hawaii and Hawaii Pacific at Blaisdell Arena.
Youth players free at HPU-UHH games
Youth basketball players wearing their team shirt or jersey will be admitted free to tonight’s basketball games at Blaisdell Arena.
Hawaii Pacific hosts Hawaii-Hilo in a women’s game at 4:30 p.m. and a men’s game at 7 p.m.
Players must be in eighth grade or younger for free admission. There will be an autograph session and pizza with HPU players following the men’s game.
Ex-Sea Warrior playing in Turkey
Former Hawaii Pacific forward CJ Jackson was named the player of the week by the TB2L, the professional basketball league in Turkey.
Jackson, who plays for Balikesir, is averaging 20 points and 12 rebounds in his rookie year in the TB2L.
Estrella, Wallin at Vulcans luncheon
Hawaii-Hilo baseball coach Joey Estrella and softball coach Jamie Wallin are the guest speakers at the monthly Vulcans Athletic Club luncheon next Tuesday.
Estrella is entering his 33rd season with UHH, Wallin her second. Lunch begins at noon at the Naniloa Volcanoes Resort. For information, call (808) 974-7700.
PacWest men’s basketball honor roll
» Marko Cukic, HPU: The junior forward scored 17 points, going 7-for-9 from the floor, with seven rebounds in the Sea Warriors’ win over Northwest Indian College.
» Terrell Mack, UHH: The junior swingman scored 20 points, going 3-for-5 from 3-point range, with six rebounds and two assists in the win over Northwest Indian College, helping give Vulcans coach Jeff Law his 200th win at the school.
» Kiel Myers, UHH: The junior forward turned in a double-double (13 points, 10 rebounds) as the Vulcans defeated Northwest Indian College in their lone game of the week.
» Fran Urli, HPU: The senior forward had 21 points, seven rebounds and two assists in the Sea Warriors’ sole game of the week, a win over Northwest Indian College.
PacWest women’s basketball honor roll
» Jordan Ahakuelo, CU: The sophomore guard out of Pearl City High had 13 points, four steals, three rebounds and two assists in the loss to Lindenwood, the Silverswords’ lone game of the week.
» Kellen Costello, CU: The senior guard hit all four of her 3-point shots for 12 points in the loss to Lindenwood.
» Hillary Hurley, UHH: Recorded a double-double with 15 points and 15 rebounds with two blocked shots in the Vulcans’ only game of the week, a win over Lindenwood.
» Elise Spain, UHH: Had 11 rebounds, nine on the defensive end, with a steal and a blocked shot in the victory over Lindenwood.
» Hotia Vaaimamao, UHH: The senior guard out of Maui High scored 10 points, going 4-for-4 from the line, in the win over Lindenwood.
