How about a cut of merchandise sales, too?
New University of Hawaii football head coach Norm Chow stands to make a pretty penny if he does well with the Warriors in the 2012 season.
The list of possible bonuses for him in his first year in the position is impressive, ranging from $300,000 extra if the team wins BCS bowl game — or $100,000 if it loses — to $25,000 if he is named national coach of the year. There’s also an extra $40,000 for Chow if the team scores a road win on national TV, and wouldn’t that be nice, after so many recent disappointments.
But maybe Chow should get a cut, too, of all the Warriors merchandise being sold with his name on it. You know, T-shirts that say "Chow Time" or "Chow Down." And if it hasn’t already been made yet, how about a T-shirt that says, "Chowabunga!"
Considering Chow’s reputation and football savvy, there certainly is a lot to be excited about.
Save the date: Hawaii’s GOP will caucus in March
Hawaii Republicans, who probably feel a world away from all the presidential caucus and primary action in snowy New Hampshire and Iowa, can circle a date on their calendar in red.
March 13 will be Hawaii’s first Republican caucuses in which voters can decide which candidates get delegates at the GOP convention, and how many. A total of 60 locations statewide have been set for the polling, 6-8 p.m. (the list is online, http://www.gophawaii.com/presidential-caucus-locations). Voters can register as party members on the spot before casting a secret ballot; unlike the Iowa caucuses, there is no program, no speeches by candidate surrogates.
So far, only Ron Paul and Mitt Romney have paid the $5,000 fee to be on the ballot, but the party faithful promise there will be more.
