Surfboard strike sends victim to hospital
A 30-year-old surfer was taken to the hospital Wednesday after he was speared in the face by the tip of another surfboard off Nanakuli.
The man was hit in the right eye and apparently suffered a broken nose, according to dispatch reports. The man couldn’t open his eye, but was able to paddle back to shore, the reports said.
Paramedics met the man at Kahe Point Beach Park and took him to the hospital in serious condition, an Emergency Medical Services spokesman said.
Man charged with impersonating officer
A Maui Police Department employee was charged Tuesday with impersonating a law enforcement officer and other offenses connected to a traffic incident in May 2010.
Charles B. Barrett, 49, was also charged with unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle, harassment and reckless driving. He turned himself in at the Wailuku Police Station on Tuesday and was released, pending a court date of Feb. 6.
Maui police said the charges stem from an incident between Barrett and a motorist on May 5, 2010.
Woman sexually assaulted by 3 suspects
Honolulu police are looking for three men in their 40s after a woman reported being sexually assaulted late Tuesday night while walking to a parking lot with her laundry in Kaneohe.
Police said the woman, 39, reported she had just finished her laundry at an Aoloa Street coin-operated laundry facility when she was assaulted by three unknown men, all between 40 and 50, at about 11 p.m.
Police asked that anyone with information about the case call HPD’s Criminal Investigations Division at 529-3115.
Gunman sought in Waialua farm shooting
Police are looking for a 34-year-old man who shot another man during an argument Wednesday morning on a farm in Waialua, police said.
The older man, 52, suffered only minor injuries.
Police said the shooting happened after a group of people had left a party on the farm and began to argue while still on the farm at about 1:15 a.m.
Police did not say what type of firearm was used.
