Officer hurt during liquor violation arrest
A police officer was assaulted when he tried to arrest a man for a liquor violation at a Maili beach early Friday morning.
Police said the officer heard loud music coming from the beach across from the Nanakuli McDonald’s restaurant at about 12:25 a.m. and stopped to investigate. As the officer warned the men, one of them opened a bottle of beer a few feet away, police said. When he was about to arrest the man for a liquor violation, a second man tried to interfere by shoving him and telling the first man to run away, police said. As assisting officers tried to subdue the second man, a third man, his brother, punched one of the arresting officers in the head, police said.
The injured officer, a member of the Kapolei patrol district, was taken to a nearby hospital where he was treated and released.
A Maili man, 36, was arrested for first-degree assault of a law enforcement officer. A second man, 27, of Waianae, was arrested for resisting arrest. The third man escaped and remained at large.
Grandson, grandmother thwart burglars
A woman and her grandson foiled a burglary at their Diamond Head Circle home Thursday night.
Police said the woman heard noises coming from her third-floor master bedroom and notified her grandson, who also lives at the home.
When the occupants found two men in the bedroom, the intruders fled. The grandson chased down and detained one suspect, a 24-year-old Kapahulu man. He was being held pending a first-degree burglary charge. The second intruder was still at large Friday.
During the chase, one of the suspects dropped a pillowcase containing jewelry.
