"REQUIEM" SCREENING SHOWCASES TALENT | 1. Yana Alliata di Montereale, center, celebrated the completion of "Requiem for Emily," her final film project for the Loyola Marymount University/LA School of Film and Television, with a preview screening and dinner party Jan. 7 at the Alliata estate in Makiki Heights. Guests included Celia Miner, left, and her husband, Jim Miner, who had housed members of the cast and crew during the film shoot in South Dakota, and Marie-France Rouze, who came to the party with Richard Chamberlain. Chamberlain and others who helped fund the project received gift bags containing a copy of the film and a jar of "Dakota-grown" raspberry jelly. The screening was followed by a buffet dinner in the gorgeous new "glass house" adjacent to the historic mansion. If all goes well, Hawaii will see "Requiem for Emily" at the Hawaii International Film Festival in October.

A "NEW BEGINNING ..." AT POHL | 4. KITV4 news anchor Pamela Young congratulated featured artists Eric Kamakahia'ai Chandler, left, and Takeo Kobayashi at the pre-opening reception for "New Beginning ...," the first exhibition of the new year at the Louis Pohl Gallery on Bethel Street on Jan. 5. Chandler's eye-catching painting of a purple octopus got a lot of attention from the guests.

5. Estelle Ortiz Green, the third artist featured in "New Beginnings ...," was joined by her husband, Michael Green, in savoring her first gallery show. She described her series of paintings as "whimsical koi."

A GREAT WEEKEND FOR "UNCLE TOM" | 3. Celebrity concert caterer Steve Ozark, left, back in town after touring with Glen Campbell on the European leg of Campbell's "Farewell" Tour, relaxed backstage with concert promoter Tom Moffatt and wife Sweetie Moffatt shortly before Elton John took the stage Jan. 6 in the Blaisdell Arena. Two sold-out shows made it a great weekend for "Uncle Tom," as the promoter is affectionately known.

2. Allia Alliata di Montereale, left, and Rachaell Siah enjoyed some girl talk as the party was winding down. It would be a short night and an early morning for Allia, Yana and their brother, Fabrizio -- they were returning to the mainland early the next morning.
