BYUH’s Ale earns weekly honor

Brigham Young-Hawaii junior guard Okesene “Junior” Ale was named the player of the week in men’s basketball for leading the Seasiders to two victories.

The Kahuku High product averaged 15.0 points and a conference-best 11.5 rebounds. He shot 60 percent from the floor (12-for-20), including 4-for-9 from 3-point range.

Ale also had a combined seven assists and five steals in the wins over Hawaii Pacific and Academy of Art.

Men’s honor roll
» Lee Bailey, CU: The freshman guard led the conference in scoring, averaging 21.5 points in wins over Hawaii-Hilo and Academy of Art.
» CJ Brown, UHH: The junior guard averaged 13.5 points and 3.5 assists as the Vulcans went 1-1.
» Matt Cousins, CU: The senior forward averaged 17 points and 6.5 rebounds in two wins for the Silverswords, hitting two of his three 3-point attempts.
» Terrell Mack, UHH: The junior swingman helped the Vulcans split their two contests, averaging 14.5 points and hitting 11 of 12 free-throw attempts.

Women’s honor roll
» Danna Lynn Hooper, BYUH: The sophomore guard out of Molokai averaged 19.5 points and 2.5 steals with four 3-pointers in the Seasiders’ two losses.
» Mana Hopkins, HPU: The senior forward out of Konawaena scored 17 points, going 7-for-14 from the floor, including 2-for-4 from 3-point range, in a win over BYUH.
» Hillary Hurley, UHH: The senior forward was 9-for-13 from the floor and 6-for-8 from the line when scoring a combined 24 points in the Vulcans’ 1-1 week. She also had 15 rebounds over the two games.
» Taiyande Huskey, HPU: The senior guard had 13 points, eight assists and seven steals in the victory over the Seasiders. She was 4-for-5 from the field, hitting two of her three 3-point attempts.
