Take a tour, then tuck in to dinner at local farms
Outstanding in the Field, the California-based traveling farm dinner series, rounds out its first-ever Hawaii tour with visits to Oahu and Hawaii island.
On Saturday the crew hits MA‘O Organic Farms in Waianae, where managing director Gary Maunakea-Forth and guest chef Ed Kenney will host a four-course outdoor meal paired with wines.
Next up is Waimea’s Kekala Farms Jan. 25. Farmer Paul Johnston welcomes chef Edwin Goto of Village Burger in Kamuela.
Both events start at 3 p.m. with wine and pupu followed by a farm tour and dinner. Cost is $190. Visit outstandinginthefield.com/events/north-american-tour.
Earlier this month the crew visited Olana Organic Farm in Kilauea, Kauai, and the Kupa‘a Coffee Farm in Kula, Maui.
Talk to help vegetarians make transition to vegan
Learn how to make the transition from vegetarian to vegan eating with nutritionist Sarah Taylor, author of "Vegan in 30 Days" and "Vegetarian to Vegan."

Writer to discuss seeds and nuts in healthy eating
Rebecca Woodland, author of "The Blonde Vegetarian" (Island Heritage, 2010), will share her knowledge about eating healthy with seeds and nuts at Castle Medical Center on Jan. 25.
Learn ways to prepare protein-rich foods with seeds and nuts, taste samples and take home recipes that will be demonstrated.
The class runs 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Castle’s Wellness Center auditorium.
Cost is $15, $20 per couple and $10 for seniors and students. Seating is limited, and payment and reservations are required at least two days in advance.

Isle eggs, dairy products promoted at Whole Foods
If you want to try local dairy products, now is the time. Through Jan. 25, Whole Foods Market has a sale on Big Island milk, Surfing Goat Dairy cheeses from Maui, Naked Cow Dairy butters and Maili Moa Farm cage-free eggs, which were added to the lineup just last month.
