Suspect arrested in fatal Waikiki stabbing
A 20-year-old Kaneohe man was stabbed to death in Waikiki early Sunday morning following a confrontation over a stolen bag.
According to police, the victim and a group of friends were walking near the concession area of Queen’s Surf around 2:25 a.m. when they stole a bag and ran to their car, which was parked nearby. They were confronted by the owner of the bag, and in the ensuing argument the victim allegedly struck the owner of the bag.
The owner of the bag then allegedly stabbed the victim and another man before fleeing.
Both victims were taken to an area hospital, where the 20-year-old man was pronounced dead. The other victim was treated and released.
The suspect, a 39-year-old man with no local address, was located a few blocks away on Kalakaua Avenue and arrested on suspicion of second-degree murder, second-degree assault and resisting arrest, as well as a contempt violation.
The suspect has prior convictions for third-degree assault and fourth-degree assault, both misdemeanors, as well as five alcohol-related misdemeanors.
Man, woman critical after near-drownings
A man and a woman were in critical condition Sunday following near-drownings in an apartment pool on Kinau Street in Honolulu.
The two people, both in their 20s, were found floating in the pool by tenants in the building. Bystanders dragged the two from the pool and performed CPR until paramedics arrived.
The victims were taken to separate area hospitals, both in critical condition.
