A 53-year-old driving instructor has pleaded guilty to a federal fraud charge of obtaining a bogus driver’s license for an illegal alien.
In Chan Park pleaded guilty Wednesday to one of four charges in an indictment accusing him of obtaining fraudulent licenses on three occasions in 2010 and 2011.
Paige Teruya, 47, a state clerk at the Dillingham Boulevard office of the city Driver’s Licensing Division, was also charged in the indictment. She is awaiting trial.
Teruya is accused of using information from Park to produce the bogus licenses.
As part of a plea agreement, prosecutors agreed to drop Park’s other charges. Park agreed to cooperate with prosecutors.
The fraud charge carries up to 15 years in prison, but federal prosecutors are free to ask for a lesser sentence under federal guidelines based on Park’s cooperation.
Park admitted he received $2,000 in December 2010 from a person identified in court papers as O.L. for a phony driver’s license in O.L.’s name, according to the plea agreement.
He also admitted he received $5,000 from O.L. in January 2011 for a bogus license in another person’s name.
Park’s sentencing is scheduled for May 7 before U.S. District Judge Michael Seabright.
