HPU women upset No. 11 Grand Canyon
Mana Hopkins scored 25 points and pulled down nine rebounds to lead Hawaii Pacific past No. 11 Grand Canyon 70-59 in a Pacific West Conference women’s basketball game Tuesday in Phoenix.
Paris Gravely added 15 points and Taiyande Huskey had 10 points and five steals for the Sea Warriors (11-7, 5-3 PacWest). GCU is 13-2 and 5-2.
HPU men fall to Grand Canyon
Kyle Speed scored 18 points as Grand Canyon rallied to a 70-57 victory over Hawaii Pacific in a Pacific West Conference men’s basketball game Tuesday in Phoenix.
Kyle Allen had 14 points and seven rebounds to lead the Sea Warriors, who led 31-30 at halftime. HPU is 7-9 overall, 2-6 in the PacWest. GCU is 10-5 and 4-3.
2 from Hawaii win Japan titles
Nani Vercruyssen and Kayttie Nakamura of Oahu won individual titles in last weekend’s Japan Double Mini-Trampoline National Championships in Tokyo.
Vercruyssen, 20, won the 17-older group and the grand championship for all females. Nakamura, 10, a Hokulani fourth-grader, won the female 10-under title.
