The Hawaii football team concluded its final weekend of recruiting by securing commitments from a lineman and linebacker.
Dejon Allen, who played on both the offensive and defensive lines at Dominguez (Calif.) High, and linebacker Jerrol Garcia-Williams of Palo Verde (Las Vegas) have accepted football scholarships from the Warriors.
They are expected to put their commitments in writing on Wednesday, the first day recruits can sign binding national letters of intent.
Allen is 6 feet 3 and 265 pounds.
The had named him as one of the offensive linemen "to watch" for the 2011 season.
Scout.com gave Allen a 3-star rating.
Last month, Allen made an oral commitment to Arizona State. But a couple of weeks ago, he decided to de-commit from that pledge.
Allen also received scholarship offers from Washington, Arizona, Utah, Boise State, SMU, New Mexico and New Mexico State.
He visited Hawaii over the weekend, and said, "I had a great time."
Allen played offensive guard and defensive tackle for Dominguez. He projects as a defensive lineman for the Warriors.
Garcia-Williams is 6 feet 2 and 215 pounds, having gained 25 pounds in the past year.
In 2011, Garcia-Williams made 84 tackles, including seven sacks, and intercepted two passes.
He was used as an outside linebacker, although he has the speed to play safety.
Garcia-Williams was named the Northwest Division’s most valuable player for defense in 2011.
About a dozen prospects took official UH recruiting visits this past weekend. All but one arrived Friday for the 48-hour trip that ended Sunday. Quarterback John Ursua, who had a basketball game Friday in Utah, did not arrive until Saturday. Ursua made an oral commitment to UH two weeks ago.
Today marks the start of the NCAA’s dead period in which coaches cannot have in-person contact with a prospect.
A school is permitted to make one call a week during the dead period.
The Warriors should be finalizing this recruiting class Tuesday night. They are expected to keep open a couple of scholarships for late qualifiers or transfers.
Allen and Garcia-Williams bring the number of new commitments to 13.
